Dear Sir or Madam,

I am writing to express my dismay that dozens of bulls continue to be tormented and tortured each year for the “Running of the Bulls” during the Festival of San Fermin. The bull run causes countless injuries to humans and bulls each year. It is repulsive and barbaric that so many bulls die nightmarish deaths in the bloody bullfights held after each run.

Most Spaniards oppose the bloody outcome of the Running of the Bulls – they know that the bulls are weakened with drugs and beatings before they ever set foot in the ring. Several Spanish cities have banned bull runs and bullfights. The bull run is mainly supported by tourists who are unaware of the horrors they will witness throughout the day. Many are so sickened by what they see that they leave bullfights before they are over, vowing never to return.

Pamplona is a lovely city which has much to offer people of all ages; it is rich with culture, delicious cuisine and a vibrant nightlife. However, many people equate the city with the cruel bull run; they won’t visit Pamplona because they abhor a tradition that is rooted in tragedy and won’t contribute to tourism that is based on torture.

You have the power to call for compassionate change in your city. A humans-only run through the streets of Pamplona is a humane activity suitable for people of all ages and abilities. Will you please add your voice to the many others crying out for an end to the cruel Running of the Bulls?
